Your Pet’s Digestion System

Cats are obligate carnivores and must eat meat. Cats simply cannot digest carbohydrates, so their protein source must come from meat, organs and fish, not from carbohydrates. Dogs are officially omnivores, but with very strong carnivorous tendencies.

There is a significant amount of scientific evidence to support the position that the gastro intestinal tract of the domestic cat or dog is directly related to the big cat or wolf, and is basically unchanged over the last 1000 years. As a result, the natural preference for cats and dogs is to eat meat and organs as their digestive systems struggle to process anything else.

Wild Prey Diet

ZiwiPeak is based on the same ratios of meat and organs as the animal would have found by hunting and eating in the wild. In this environment they would have eaten virtually the whole animal, including essential benefits from consuming such organs as the liver, lungs, stomach lining (tripe), heart, kidney and even the bone.

ZiwiPeak is the best alternative because it offers all the benefits of this raw wild prey meat diet, with added fish, shellfish and essential vitamins, but with the convenience and safety of shelf stability.

Dry or Moist Options

The air dried cuisine mirrors the equivalent of nature’s diet by using a unique and gentle process to air dry 90% raw meat, organs and fish. This unique air drying process minimises any damage to the proteins, vitamins and sensitive nutrients and enzymes.

The other 10% consists of carbohydrates from natural sources, such as chicory, kelp and parsley plus essential vitamins and minerals, like chondroitin and glucosamine for a balanced diet. This also means there is no need for you to provide any further nutritional support in the form of supplements.

ZiwiPeak also provides a moist cuisine in a canned option for pet owners that prefer to feed moist food. The canned ZiwiPeak contains a minimum of 66% raw meat and organs, with the balance being moisture and other essential vitamins and minerals, as in the air dried cuisine.

Our Natural Promise

Dogs and cats cannot easily metabolise or digest highly processed foods and high levels of carbohydrates found in most other pet foods. New Zealand is our only source of ingredients.  We don’t use any added sugars, salt, glycerines, antibiotics, hormones, growth promotants, fillers, grains or potatoes.  Our products are also GMO free, with no ethoxyquin, BHA or BHT and no propylene glycol.

These 'nasties' are often found in other cheaper pet foods to bulk them out or change their appearance, and your pet’s digestion system simply cannot process them. Many other pet foods are highly processed and are also subject to extremely high temperatures, which damages the meat and its nutritional value, active enzymes, nutrients, vitamins and proteins.

ZiwiPeak does not use meat meal products such as venison meal or lamb meal and then call it meat. These meat meals have been extruded under very high temperatures of over 200°C  so that there is very little goodness left in them.
