Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   I am not familiar with the term you use for how the meat is processed in your ZiwiPeak can Cuisine food.   Is it cooked so the bad bacteria are addressed?

A:   The process for our ZiwiPeak Can Cuisine food is called 'retorting' and means low temperature "cooking" under vaccum.   This means that like the temperature we air-dry the ZiwiPeak Cuisine food in, the sensitive nutrients aren't harmed and again no micro-orgisms can survive.

Q:   If I feed Venison Cuisine-air dried, how are the bad bacteria addressed?   Does the process remove them in any way or is it assumed that the dog's immune system can handle them?

A:   Firstly bad micro-organisms (pathogens) are restricted and do not exist in ZiwiPeak products for many reasons.  Not least that we use human grade meats, our processing facility is human grade and most importantly our air drying system does not allow any organisms to survive.

In saying this we do have procedures around all product batches produced which we are checking on a daily bases.   This falls in line with our NZFSA Health requirements for export.
